In the ever-evolving landscape of American political discourse, conversations often swirl with opinions, accusations, and sometimes, misinformation. A recent episode of the YouTube show “Triggernometry” features the well-known media personality Charlamagne tha God, who boldly declares that “Democrats are losers, Republicans are crooks.” This provocative statement raises critical questions about the validity of such claims and the underlying contexts that shape political narratives. In this blog post, we delve into a fact-check of Charlamagne’s assertions, examining the evidence, exploring the implications, and providing clarity amidst the noise of polarization. Join us as we sift through the rhetoric to better understand the complexities of today’s political climate.

[00:00:01,059]: My triggers my triggers Went from straight to high school to a holding cell and I stayed there for 45 days So my dad was trying to teach me a lesson It worked right cuz when you came out no no not the first time the second time [00:00:17,620]: Maybe the third probably Now that the elections over I hear a lot of talking points that I’ve been saying myself for the last two or three years I am your consumer [00:00:30,200]: I am your voter base [00:00:31,500]: I’m telling you what’s the problem and you’re just dismissing me I want whoever’s in that office to do right by American people to do right by working working class people and right now I see a lot of working class people hurting Charlamagne welcome trigonometry man [00:00:46,119]: Hey thank you for having me man [00:00:47,479]: What’s happening [00:00:48,119]: It’s great to have you this my triggers my triggers We did at one point for one of our comedy shows we had the idea of calling it triggers with attitude But we didn’t think we could get away with it [00:01:00,220]: I Mean I I don’t know I’m not I would find it kind of funny you know yeah triggers with attitudes [00:01:06,559]: It may make sense Yeah cuz it’s trigonometry [00:01:08,779]: Yeah no you might get a little flack [00:01:10,419]: Who knows [00:01:10,699]: I don’t know how sensitive people are nowadays But it’s good to have you on listen one of the interesting things about you is you you know You’re in the Radio Hall of Fame very successful [00:01:21,519]: You’ve done incredibly well But from very difficult beginnings from what I’ve been reading at one point your dad wouldn’t bail you out of jail for like 40 days yeah I was a I was a Hard headed little kid and you know growing up in a most corner South Carolina being involved in a lot of things I didn’t have no business being involved in it started with me getting in trouble in school So I had already gotten kicked out of one school which is Berkeley High School in most corner South Carolina But you know the assistant principal there at the time her name was Miss Sadie Brown She believed in me [00:01:51,440]: So she was like listen I could I didn’t go to the expulsion hearing I went to class like I didn’t even have an exposure here I didn’t tell my parents about it or nothing like that [00:01:59,080]: And so she was like look let’s not expel him Let’s just transfer him to you know Scrafford High School [00:02:04,739]: That’s where his mom teaches at You know maybe him being in the same school that his mom taught at well you know Keep him on the straight and narrow [00:02:12,199]: I mean I guess it did for a little while but I was still you know Kicking it with my homies who was you know in the street at the time because this is when all around the time all of Us was either dropping out of school or the ones out Those what that was still in school were like juniors and seniors [00:02:26,259]: So we was like right there 17 18 years old and I Got arrested from Scrafford High School because I was in the back seat of a car and one of my homeboys shot at somebody And so the guy that he shot at was actually somebody who went to the school went to school I went to Scrafford High School and so they came and arrested me from class That day and so I went from sitting in high school my junior year a senior year [00:02:51,619]: I don’t it wasn’t a senior I never made it to my senior year [00:02:53,679]: So like my My double sophomore year and I don’t think I made it myself [00:02:57,259]: Yeah cuz I got left back twice [00:02:59,039]: So my double sophomore year Went from straight to high school to a holding cell and I stayed there for 45 days And my dad was trying to teach me a lesson It worked right cuz when you came out no no not the first time The second time maybe the third probably The second time I went to jail Just when I was I got into selling you know a little bit of dope and I was selling crack and I was involved in A drug bustle like 15 of us that ended up you know going to the Berkeley County Detention Center and I remember sitting in the holding cell and that was when I was like All right I can’t live like this no more like like this night this gotta change and my dad used to always tell me man You know in order to change your life you know you got to change your your lifestyle And so that’s what really made me say this is it [00:03:47,139]: I’m done I’m really gonna start doing different things because you know my dad would always say If you don’t change your lifestyle you end up in jail dead or broke sitting under a tree And when you start to see that actually happen to people around you you know you start going to jail yourself You know people that are actually going to prison I was just in the detention center people were actually going to prison for five years You know You see people around you actually dying and you see people around you that you used to look up to Literally sitting under a tree you know broke you know not doing anything with their life You know You kind of snap out of it real quick if you got sense you know I always say small people learn from their own mistakes watch people learn from the mistakes of others I don’t always have to you know make the mistake to learn from it I can watch other people go through it and that’s that’s what that’s what happened One of the hard things when you get into bad habits of doing bad things is in order to let that go You’ll have to let people go as well and the people who are around you who are into that stuff Was that difficult [00:04:46,160]: Did you have to do that [00:04:47,679]: It wasn’t difficult because I had just found a girlfriend Okay and so when you I just found a girlfriend and she didn’t live in most corners She lived like in another town of Goose Creek Ladsen area [00:05:00,720]: And so when you have You know you rather be with your girl anyway and then be with a bunch of guys right [00:05:05,980]: So you know you spending a bunch of time with your girlfriend that helps to shift the lifestyle that helps to change the lifestyle [00:05:12,619]: So It is I guess difficult but it’s not difficult when you have something better to do and you know One vagina beats five dicks all day Has That changed the way that you view the world because of the past experiences of being in jail Oh you know a lot of people talk about jail and a lot of people talk about incarceration But you’ve experienced it [00:05:40,519]: So you’ve got a real world knowledge of it [00:05:42,760]: Has that changed the way you see things [00:05:44,760]: Well once again I’ve never been to prison you know I mean but I’ve been to the Berkeley County Detention Center You know when you were in the orange jumpsuit I was there for 45 days [00:05:52,779]: So it’s definitely jail Well yeah it helps you to change it helps you to see the world differently because you know You have a lot more grace for people who come from certain environments because you know I was able to turn my life around and you know Become who I am today [00:06:08,739]: Anybody can do that with the right opportunity and the right guidance you know I think that sometimes you know we punish people and we Cancel people for things that we that they were never even taught right [00:06:21,440]: We never even took the time to teach this this next generation Like if we talk about how bad the youth is then we failed somewhere you know what I mean [00:06:29,559]: Like if we talk about how bad these kids are then what have we what have we not been doing clearly [00:06:35,239]: We haven’t been instilling in this next generation the wisdom that they need like even though my dad you know Had his own issues when it came to you know The law and he had his own issues when it came to mental health He was always on my ass to be better I say all the time my dad raised me out of fear and not love because it was a fear that I would become Like him [00:06:54,279]: He wanted me to be better than him [00:06:56,720]: So he was always on me like it was he was a disciplinarian He was always on me to educate myself He was always telling me or you gonna end up just like these guys went up in jail dead or broke sitting under the tree You need people to constantly be on you like that And you know Some people are smart enough to listen to those who came before them and learn and some of them are not and you know They make poor choices you know It’s it’s a really important point because I think one of the things really affecting not only the US But also the UK and this is all communities and demographics is a lack of fatherlessness I was working in a part of East London ironically called Stratford near Stratford and You know I could tell the kids that were struggling the kids that weren’t going to do well or not just do well But not fulfill their potential were the ones who didn’t have a father around it was just so obvious [00:07:50,010]: I mean listen we Talk about girls who end up being horse and we say oh you didn’t have a pops So what happens to guys who don’t have a father either like you know [00:08:01,570]: I’m sure it’s the same type of mentality right [00:08:04,329]: Like you need a man [00:08:05,649]: You need a strong man in your life You need a strong woman in your life to have that balance you know And I talk about my daddy issues all the time like one of my first breakthroughs in therapy Well I’m boohoo crying was because I was saying to myself damn you know My dad used to discipline me for things that he never taught me Right [00:08:26,049]: So how you gonna discipline your young teenage son [00:08:30,529]: With things that for not knowing things are making mistakes when you had the opportunity to teach him you know So that’s why I don’t think we do the next generation any favors by keeping secrets I don’t think we you know do our kids any favors by keeping secrets and to your point I don’t respect no man who’s not in his child’s life [00:08:50,330]: Like you can’t treat children like you know You know a candy wrapper Like you eat the candy bar and just throw the wrapper and don’t give the wrapper down You can’t eat the pussy puts a dick in it nothing and she gets pregnant have the baby and you just Disappear like who are you [00:09:06,070]: That was the thing that shocked me when I became a father just under three years ago now It’s like how any man can walk away from that and feel good about himself I don’t I don’t I kind of I’m not judging really although maybe I am to some extent but I just can’t relate I don’t get it different level of sociopath [00:09:21,049]: Yeah I don’t want to diagnose nobody But there’s no way you watch your child come into this world For my beautiful daughters by the same woman by the way it’s very important to say my beautiful wife I watched all of my daughters come into this world [00:09:35,429]: There’s no way you watch that experience [00:09:37,530]: There’s no way you hug your child There’s no way you kiss your child be around your child watch your child’s first steps [00:09:43,609]: Listen to your child’s first word there’s no way you experience that and walk away from it if you’re not some type of like sociopath like Psychopath almost like I don’t I don’t understand because It’s not only the damage as it does to you but it’s the damage to the kid But the damage it does to society you just see I saw the kids are I taught the ones that were going into gangs Were the ones who didn’t have a dad around [00:10:10,250]: for two reasons number one because when a boy gets to a certain age mom can’t control them and Number two because you need a father like you had like we had to go don’t do this you do this This is what’s gonna happen [00:10:23,250]: That’s right [00:10:23,609]: It’s really just that simple [00:10:25,049]: You know it’s like it’s like the yin and the yang right [00:10:27,570]: Like you know we talked about the sacred masculine and the divine feminine or the divine masculine and the sacred feminine You need both like we as human beings are Made of two ingredients male and female it took both of them to make us So imagine when you have the absence of one and you got to grow up as a young a boy To a young man and then try to figure out how to be a man like it’s just those little simple things that you miss right and um Yeah I feel like a lot of times often even in my own personal life I didn’t have the father son relationship that I would have loved to have with my dad now mind you my dad is still alive But man sometimes I get around my pops and I turn back to that little boy who just wants my daddy’s approval And it makes me uncomfortable It just does like you know cuz as you get older what you’re gonna realize is that you know every day All you’re doing is realizing it’s a constant battle between your adult Life and your inner child [00:11:30,789]: So it’s things that happen to you and your adult life that you can trace Directly back you know to to your to your childhood So it’s almost like you become the father to your five year old self your ten year old self your fifteen year old self you know your twenty year old self because That self at least for me didn’t necessarily have my pops there the way that I wanted to but that’s before a number of reasons My dad had his own issues and that’s why I give him a lot of grace because he he tried But he was busy battling his own issues [00:12:02,109]: He had his own substance abuse issues [00:12:03,530]: He had his own mental health issues I didn’t find out about his mental health issues until 2018 you know the 2018 he told me that you know he been going to there He was going to therapy two and three times a week [00:12:13,830]: He was on 10 to 12 different medications for you know His mental health he tried to commit suicide 30 plus years ago I didn’t know any of that But when I found that out it allowed me to give him a lot of grace because I realized he was just a man Trying to figure things out the way I’m a man [00:12:28,950]: Just trying to figure things out [00:12:30,330]: Well said man Well anyway enough of the sad stuff right [00:12:33,349]: You’ve had a great career How did that happen [00:12:36,450]: How did you get well I love the UK by the way cuz y all just get right to the point Okay Just for the seriousness of it I will say I really respect that you talk about this I think especially if some if you are like a masculine man It’s looked down upon and the fact that you’re bringing that up and we can talk about it [00:13:03,169]: I think that’s great I think that’s great [00:13:04,869]: But I also want to look at some of the success you’ve had You know One of the things I find really cool about you is like you know Francis and I we like to rub a few people up the wrong way and talk about difficult issues on our show and you’ve always Had that in your career as well you know you’ve been I mean cancelled not can I don’t know what it is But like you’ve always had that attitude as well right the prince of pissing people off [00:13:26,150]: That was my Monica I you know what I did I call it the Eminem and eight mile theory like you know you own whatever it is people say about you So when people used to be like god damn he’s an asshole you know oh my god [00:13:36,929]: He makes me sick Yeah I’m the rule of rubbing you the wrong way you know the prince of pissing people off the architect of aggravation you know and so there was a time I would purposely push buttons and you know I Don’t purposely push them now but they still get pushed [00:13:52,549]: Yeah so maybe I am a natural asshole [00:13:55,630]: I don’t That’s not my read of you at all I think you probably rub people up the wrong way and push buttons by saying things that make them uncomfortable But you think a true that’s my read on it [00:14:07,609]: Yeah and I’m just like not smart enough to like You know navigate a room with big words You know how like you have these people that like to use these big 25 letter Shakespearean words because they think it makes them sound Smarter it’s like English people [00:14:23,409]: Yeah me I just like to get right to the point and I think sometimes it’s getting right to the point comes off as harsh You know you know what [00:14:31,429]: I sometimes think the reason that people use those 25 letter words is not is to make themselves look more intelligent but also It’s to actually disguise and hide what they’re actually saying because if you break down what they’re actually saying and you take those big words out you go You’re not actually saying anything about exactly and I’m just not that smart like I’m just not I don’t know those words [00:14:53,869]: I know So I would just rather ask you the question in my Plain basic terms that’s it [00:15:02,570]: Well one of the things I want to ask you in the current climate obviously things are very heated politically and The first time I saw Reese or the recent thing of yours was Josh Shapiro I find a very interesting person on the like that guy a lot interesting guy [00:15:15,169]: But what where are you political yourself [00:15:17,890]: Are you neutral [00:15:18,830]: Do you stay out of it [00:15:19,469]: Like how do you what do you see [00:15:20,969]: You know I got a great friend you know she’s really big in America She’s her name is Nina Turner former senator of Ohio you know fantastic human being and she always says You know you don’t have to do politics because politics is gonna do you So you know you can sit around and you know ignore politics and say you’re not a political person [00:15:42,419]: If you pay taxes you’re a political person [00:15:44,199]: If you live in a country where there’s a democracy you’re a political person whether you want to be or not because you know the legislation that’s passed the things that that democracy is doing will impact you [00:15:56,739]: So yes yeah I am a political person [00:15:59,319]: I’m a political person number one because I do really enjoy it [00:16:02,359]: You know politics has become pop culture you know since Obama [00:16:06,339]: You know well actually the 90s with Bill Clinton when he was playing the saxophone on Arsenio Hall and getting blowjobs in the Oval Office like that was pop culture [00:16:15,979]: It’s like oh those are references you hear on comedy shows and rap albums all of that type of stuff [00:16:20,659]: But then Obama really became a superstar celebrity by doing the work not because he was seeking it or you know wanting the attention [00:16:28,759]: He was just doing the work for his black president [00:16:31,129]: Then comes the actual executive producer of Celebrity Apprentice a real live celebrity [00:16:36,279]: America’s obsession with celebrity caused them to elect the executive producer of Celebrity Apprentice [00:16:42,799]: So therefore it really became you know pop culture [00:16:45,899]: And he’s been the main star of politics since you know 2016 [00:16:50,739]: So I really do enjoy it [00:16:52,079]: I enjoy watching CNN and MSNBC and Fox News and you know watching the Young Turks on YouTube [00:16:57,479]: And you know I watch Jon Stewart’s Daily Show and the Weekly Show [00:17:01,819]: I like watching the Native Land podcast all of these different places I go to get entertainment news [00:17:06,839]: I watch political news [00:17:08,599]: I watch Candace Owens [00:17:10,139]: You know I watch you know I’m blanking on the name right now PB what’s Patrick David [00:17:17,879]: Patrick Bet David [00:17:18,939]: Patrick Bet David [00:17:19,699]: You know I watch all of that stuff because it’s entertaining you know and you know you do get informed [00:17:25,559]: And I like to watch all sides [00:17:27,699]: Like I’m not just watching what’s happening on the left [00:17:29,739]: I’m watching what’s happening on the right [00:17:31,279]: I want to hear what everybody is talking about [00:17:33,879]: And where do you come out [00:17:34,779]: Are you happy about Trump being elected and things he’s doing [00:17:37,819]: How do you feel about it [00:17:38,719]: I mean I’m not going to say I’m not happy [00:17:40,699]: I’m just indifferent because I didn’t vote for Donald Trump [00:17:43,399]: You know I voted for Vice President Kamala Harris but at the end of the day I’m still an American [00:17:47,959]: So during campaign season you know everybody can say they’re left right [00:17:52,139]: I’m registered as an independent but you know everybody can say they’re left or everybody can say they’re right [00:17:56,639]: But when that person wins we’re all we’re all on the same team which is Team America [00:18:01,379]: And so it’s just like yeah I want what’s best for the country [00:18:04,799]: I want you know to see who I want whoever’s in that office to do right by American people to do right by working working class people [00:18:12,539]: And right now I see a lot of working class people hurting you know when I see what you know Doge is doing you know firing all of those federal workers man I was down in Maryland a few weeks ago for my daughter’s cheerleading competition and the amount of people who were coming up to me telling me they either had lost their job or they may lose their job [00:18:29,779]: That hurts when you see people complaining about you know the high price of groceries the high price of you know you know just any type of consumer good [00:18:39,559]: That hurts to hear especially when something when he ran on the economy he literally said you know I ran and won by using one word groceries [00:18:48,299]: That’s what he said [00:18:49,659]: So if the price of groceries is sky high you know if inflation is high you know if people are losing their jobs if the economy’s messed up that’s not good for us as a people because working class people are hurting [00:19:02,659]: So I can’t know [00:19:03,379]: That’s not that’s not good for us right now [00:19:05,319]: And this is a thing that I don’t understand [00:19:07,539]: And we’ve got the exact same problem in the UK by the way [00:19:10,059]: And now well the three of us sitting around this table are very fortunate [00:19:13,759]: We’re very fortunate and we’re very lucky [00:19:16,059]: Absolutely [00:19:16,119]: But when you go into a supermarket I just pick things up and I go I don’t understand how people are meant to afford this [00:19:22,539]: When I was a teacher I was on very low wages [00:19:26,479]: I dread to think how I would have been able to not even live just exist nowadays [00:19:30,619]: Yeah [00:19:30,899]: You know I think about that all the time because my mother was an English teacher right [00:19:35,359]: Growing up in Moss Corner South Carolina [00:19:36,579]: And I remember one time she told me the most she made in a year was 30 000 [00:19:41,119]: She had five kids [00:19:42,439]: It was my oldest sister [00:19:43,919]: It was me my two younger brothers and my youngest sister [00:19:46,459]: We lived in a single wide trailer for a long time [00:19:48,939]: And like I said my dad was a my dad was a hardworking person [00:19:51,599]: But you know at times he wasn’t there because he was you know battling his own substance abuse issues and stuff like that [00:19:55,839]: So I always wondered like man how did we make it [00:19:59,479]: Because you know I didn’t pay attention to the cost of groceries [00:20:02,119]: You know what I paid attention to [00:20:03,099]: Having five dollars and being able to go in a food line in Moss Corner South Carolina and buying a ninety nine cent box of oatmeal cream pies and it was twelve in a box and buying a three liter freaking orange soda or grape soda for another ninety nine cents [00:20:16,679]: So plus tax it was a dollar for I remember being able to go to McDonald’s and getting two cheeseburgers and a large fry for two ninety nine which came out to like three fourteen [00:20:24,879]: I remember when the tax increased on that and because at one point it was like three or five or something like that they went up three fourteen [00:20:31,699]: I remember things like that [00:20:33,379]: So now when you see like a two cheeseburger meal cost seven eight dollars you see the oatmeal cream pies might be two or three dollars a box [00:20:41,899]: You like ham times have really changed [00:20:44,959]: But I couldn’t imagine having to go into a grocery store and not and having thirty thousand dollars making thirty thousand dollars a year in this environment and trying to feed five kids [00:20:55,679]: Yeah I couldn’t even I could even fathom it [00:20:58,699]: And then when you factor in rent has gone [00:21:01,099]: Oh my God [00:21:01,739]: You know the utility bills have gone [00:21:03,779]: Oh my God [00:21:04,439]: And then you go you know no wonder people are angry people [00:21:08,219]: You can’t have a cohesive society if you’ve just got all of these people who have done nothing wrong [00:21:14,359]: They’re working jobs [00:21:15,339]: They’re working hard to be a teacher is an important job [00:21:18,739]: And they can’t even make a living [00:21:21,339]: Let’s be honest [00:21:22,479]: This economy has been brutal mortgage child care energy bills [00:21:26,479]: And for a lot of homeowners credit cards have become the fallback [00:21:30,199]: But with interest rates upwards of 20 percent that debt piles up fast [00:21:34,779]: That’s where American financing comes in [00:21:37,139]: They’re not your typical lender [00:21:38,439]: Their family owned have been around for twenty five years and are licensed in all 50 states of the United States [00:21:44,079]: No board no investors just a team focused on helping you save their mortgage [00:21:48,859]: Consultants are salary based so they won’t push a loan that doesn’t make sense [00:21:52,639]: And there are no upfront or hidden fees [00:21:54,779]: You won’t pay a dime to find out how much you could save [00:21:57,519]: And the savings are real [00:21:58,959]: Homeowners working with American financing save an average of eight hundred dollars a They look at your full financial picture credit cards car loans mortgage and see how you can reduce your total payments [00:22:10,019]: They’ve already helped hundreds of thousands of Americans [00:22:13,319]: Just check their Google reviews [00:22:14,959]: So take 10 minutes [00:22:16,219]: Call eight six six eight eight six fifty three fifty or go to American financing dot net slash trigonometry [00:22:24,959]: Start feeling that relief today [00:22:26,479]: That’s eight six six eight eight six fifty three fifty [00:22:32,179]: And then you know especially here in America the criticism that was happening as far as like the border is concerned was super valid [00:22:40,819]: And I remember last January you know my activist friends in Chicago were telling me about the problems of the the migrants coming into their city and causing problems in their neighborhoods [00:22:55,319]: And you know they were getting resources that people that were in these poor and disenfranchised communities for years weren’t getting [00:23:01,899]: You know I remember in New York City when they closed down the school for a day to let the migrants stay in the school [00:23:07,799]: And you know all of the parents from the school were calling like yo this is some bullshit [00:23:11,659]: Like our kids had to stay home and you know do homeschooling for the day just because they want to house these migrants [00:23:17,919]: You know I noticed I tell this story all the time because this is a true story [00:23:22,239]: There’s a parking attendant I know in New York City and I parked my car there a lot and he came to me in tears [00:23:29,659]: I mean crying to me telling me how you know MS 13 had came through was in his neighborhood and was raising holy hell [00:23:38,099]: And he was like I know it’s because of the fucking border they gotta close the border they gotta close the border [00:23:41,299]: He wanted me to come to his neighborhood to see you know what was going on [00:23:45,639]: And I remember man just going to the radio and having these conversations [00:23:49,739]: And I did an interview with Fox News and I told the guy at Fox News you know because he asked me he said what do you think about you know he said you think the border is going to be a problem come November [00:23:57,559]: And I told him all those stories I just told you [00:24:00,479]: MSNBC ran the headline that said Charlemagne Tha God is spreading MAGA messaging [00:24:05,659]: I’m like nobody I spoke to was MAGA [00:24:08,299]: These were black activists in Chicago [00:24:10,559]: These were black people calling from New York City [00:24:12,559]: This was a Spanish man across the street at the parking garage [00:24:16,239]: It wasn’t even about none of them were talking about politics [00:24:19,819]: They were talking about being inconvenienced in their everyday lives [00:24:25,339]: That’s it [00:24:26,339]: Nothing more for the left to ignore that for as long as they did [00:24:30,299]: That was a real real real grave miscalculation man [00:24:33,519]: Even when you know the stimulus checks went out [00:24:37,419]: I remember arguing with some very very well off people [00:24:41,339]: And they were one guy in particular I’m not going to say his name but I remember he said to me man if you can be moved by a 1 200 stimulus check then I want to talk to them [00:24:50,319]: No way [00:24:50,759]: I said you’ve been rich way too long [00:24:52,959]: You’ve been rich way too long and disconnected way too long [00:24:56,799]: Somebody will kill you for 1 200 literally pull out 1 200 somewhere where there’s some people that need that freaking money and watch what they do to you [00:25:06,239]: So it’s like yo the fact that you just thought that that was nothing and you couldn’t understand how that impacted people you know who did understand that [00:25:13,859]: Donald Trump [00:25:14,479]: That’s why Donald Trump held those checks up and made sure his name was on them when they went out because he knew the type of impact that was going to have on everyday working class people [00:25:23,779]: And guess what [00:25:24,299]: All his political calculations were right and all the left’s political calculations were wrong [00:25:29,199]: And it’s just that simple because a lot of times you know the left especially talks about people that they never talk to [00:25:37,899]: And I’m not no political expert [00:25:40,139]: I’m just a person that is out here with the people talking to people from rural areas in South Carolina where I’m from to you know the hoods in Newark you know New Jersey to you know Harlem when I’m you know doing work with the food bank whatever it is on the radio every day [00:25:56,179]: The Breakfast Club Alice Randall said this [00:25:58,539]: She said the Breakfast Club is America’s front porch [00:26:01,459]: And I sit on that front porch every day with my co hosts and we talk to everyday working class people and they tell us what’s going on [00:26:11,579]: And that’s what I think the disconnect is with a lot of elected officials in our country [00:26:15,859]: There’s so many things you said that one of them it seems a bit of a contradiction because you were saying that Trump had got everything right but you voted for Vice President Harris [00:26:24,539]: So what was your thinking behind that [00:26:26,519]: Oh it’s a difference between what I think a person is actually going to do when they get in the White House and what a person does to win an election [00:26:35,199]: When it comes to what he was doing to win an election he got every political calculation right [00:26:40,459]: And the left was getting every political calculation wrong [00:26:43,499]: The left was focusing on the left was focusing on minors [00:26:48,179]: Republicans were focusing on the majors [00:26:50,059]: Now you know Project 2025 is real and it was right there laid out for people [00:26:53,999]: And he didn’t hide anything [00:26:55,139]: He told you exactly what he was going to do [00:26:56,799]: But he was still speaking to people’s dinner table issues [00:26:59,879]: He was speaking to the basics [00:27:02,259]: Security and money economy and security whatever way you want to flip it [00:27:07,499]: I say it all the time [00:27:08,599]: If you are a human being on this planet there’s two things you want [00:27:12,799]: You want to be financially stable and you want to be safe [00:27:16,479]: That’s it [00:27:17,639]: Whoever can make you believe they’re going to keep some money in your pocket and keep you safe that’s who you’re going to rock with [00:27:25,499]: That’s what we all want [00:27:26,619]: That’s what we call security financial security you know physical security whatever it is [00:27:33,119]: You want money in your pocket and you want to feel safe [00:27:36,239]: Whoever can make you feel like they’re going to do those two things for you will win every election [00:27:40,999]: That’s really interesting [00:27:41,859]: And the other point you made I was going to sort of double click on as well is really interesting about the MAGA messaging [00:27:47,099]: And this is a thing that for us in Britain watching American politics from the outside like every time a black person says anything that’s outside the democratic messaging it’s like they’re trying to take that black card away straight away [00:28:00,199]: Like what’s that about [00:28:02,239]: You ain’t black Joe Biden said like Don Lemon was on Bill Maher’s show the other day [00:28:06,779]: It’s silly and it actually exists on both sides because you’ll have conservatives that are black in MAGA who will tell the liberals they’re stuck on the democratic plantation [00:28:17,259]: And then you have the black liberals who will tell black MAGA y all a bunch of coons and y all a bunch of Uncle Tom’s [00:28:23,819]: So it’s literally on both sides [00:28:26,599]: And I’m like man for me if you black in America you shouldn’t be beholden to any political party right [00:28:31,739]: Because neither one of these political parties have really delivered for us period [00:28:36,379]: Like you know like that’s just how that’s just always been my thought process [00:28:40,759]: Like neither one of these parties have delivered for us [00:28:44,019]: Whenever you get to the point where you’re having debates on whether or not you’re voting for the lesser of two evils or you’re voting for the person who’s going to do the least harm you’re in a bad situation because you’re saying both of them going to hurt me [00:28:57,619]: But let me pick the person who’s going to do the least harm to me [00:29:01,159]: That’s like pretty insane when you think about it [00:29:04,139]: Like why are we stuck with these two choices [00:29:06,499]: And I think right now what you saw at least in this last election was a backlash to people saying I’m good with either meaning I don’t care either way [00:29:15,999]: I was saying for a whole year this election was going to come down to the Democrats who are the cowards [00:29:21,799]: They don’t fight hard for nothing [00:29:23,379]: Still don’t even right now [00:29:26,099]: The Republicans who are the crooks because they’re going to tell you everything you want to hear to get in position to rob you blind [00:29:32,319]: And then you got the couch [00:29:33,779]: And I think the couch you know won a lot this election [00:29:38,459]: I think a lot of people just simply stayed home [00:29:41,459]: When have you ever seen a Republican in America when’s the last time you saw a Republican in America win the popular vote [00:29:46,919]: He didn’t win the popular vote by like some enormous amount [00:29:50,759]: I think it was like 2000 votes or something that separated them [00:29:53,999]: I can’t remember the exact number but it was small very very small [00:29:57,139]: It wasn’t this huge mandate by the American people like you know like the Republicans like to make it out to be [00:30:02,759]: So that just lets me know that there’s a lot of people who are just unhappy with what’s going on in America [00:30:08,259]: And it’s going to be very interesting to see what happens in the midterms [00:30:11,239]: If we have a midterm I got a feeling that they might call the midterms off [00:30:15,159]: I really do [00:30:16,999]: Why do you say that [00:30:18,039]: I just feel like you know I can see them saying hey man we’ve uncovered you know massive voter fraud you know from the past or massive voter fraud from the last election [00:30:29,319]: The elections you know aren’t we’re not we’re not a stable enough [00:30:33,359]: We don’t have a stable enough [00:30:35,839]: We don’t have a stable enough democracy right now to be able to you know have the election [00:30:40,159]: I just really feel like I don’t know what he’s going to say because he says a lot of wild sh [00:30:43,959]: I just feel like he’s going to say something that’s going to be [00:30:48,333]: Revolving around the elections and elections being fraudulent and he’s gonna be like we’re not having the midterms right now I can see some shit like that happening [00:30:55,413]: I really can and in 2028 [00:30:57,313]: I saw Steve Bannon say today I’m looking forward to Donald Trump running for a third term He said it to you like I mean I think he was interviewing with uh I’ve got who’s in coma Chris Cuomo and Chris Cuomo goes But you know there’s term limits [00:31:10,993]: He said yeah we’re working on that So what do you think that’s legit or do you think that’s Bannon talking shit [00:31:17,553]: Why do we have any reason to think it’s not legit [00:31:20,713]: Yeah I have no reason to believe it’s not legit [00:31:23,393]: And you know what’s even stupider [00:31:24,893]: There’s already people people talk right now like Donald Trump is Still campaigning people talk like when you hear people talk about him [00:31:33,233]: They talk like he’s still on the campaign trail No he’s in the White House already He’s in there and he’s doing you know whatever it is that he wants to do Focus people are focused on the midterm people are focused on you know the 2028 election but they’re talking like they’re gonna run against Trump again in 2028 you idiots if Donald Trump runs for a third term the fight is already fixed Donald Trump runs again in 2028 we don’t have a democracy anymore [00:32:03,173]: So why are we talking like you’re gonna run against him in 2028 [00:32:06,693]: It’s mine Boggling to be what’s happening [00:32:09,693]: Do you think part of this is like I think what Trump did is because he says so much crazy Shit we almost stopped taking things seriously that are being said we’ve been did that that was since 2018 right [00:32:22,053]: So now when someone like Steve Bannon says that people don’t take it sufficiently seriously is what I’m hearing from you I think people are fatigued and they don’t even know what they can do because that’s not our job to stop Right because they told us that if we just go out there and vote in 2020 then we could stop fascism 2020 President Biden won the election [00:32:43,993]: Mm hmm didn’t stop anything Didn’t stop the the fascism did it didn’t stop you know Donald Trump from you know Getting back in the White House didn’t stop what’s happening that we’re literally watching things happen right now [00:32:55,833]: That shouldn’t happen What do you mean by that doge Like doge should not be happening the way that is happening [00:33:02,753]: You have a guy who’s not an elected official You know literally telling the government how they can spend their money Like he doesn’t have the authority to go in there and make these cuts that he’s making I want everybody to go back and watch when I go back and watch go back and research The National Partnership for reinventing government that Bill Clinton had in the 90s What doge is trying to do Bill Clinton actually did it he did it the right way He had Al Gore who was an elected official Running it [00:33:32,853]: He actually worked with federal workers and civil servants on Where the cuts needed to be like and they were surgical with it like it didn’t jump in and do it within days It took them months to make those cuts and then when he did make those cuts they did it with Congress Elon Musk is not doing any of that but he has the authority from the president but doesn’t have the authority You know through Congress to do what he’s doing [00:33:57,193]: So if you’re bypassing Congress does that sound like democracy [00:33:59,933]: Does that sound constitutional [00:34:01,613]: Does that sound lawful [00:34:02,833]: And do you feel he’s cutting the wrong things [00:34:05,993]: clearly Clearly if you gotta if you’re cutting if you’re cutting things and then realizing oh We got to bring these people back Because we actually need you know these guys that were working at the USDA you know you know covering the bird flu Are you know these people that were working at these nuclear you know power plants like if we fired them and can’t even hire them Back because we don’t even have their emails anymore [00:34:31,953]: You are showing us that you’re cutting the wrong things like that’s obvious So you sound worried Hakuna matata I mean yeah we’re all you’re always concerned [00:34:49,373]: But I got to my point that I made a little while ago [00:34:51,173]: What what can we do [00:34:53,313]: Mmm like we did I did what I was supposed to do in 2020 that didn’t stop anything like it’s like voters all one thing that I always hate about Democrats so much is that they create this sense of urgency in Voters but then when they get in the White House they don’t govern with that same sense of urgency And that’s why we’re in this situation that we’re in now so it’s even kind of hard to believe anything that they say and Now in regards to you know right the democracy fascist [00:35:24,553]: I’ll never believe that from them I shouldn’t have believed it this time but I’ll never believe them ever again But I actually I said it over and over and over during the campaign season you have You know an administration that could get into the White House That actually is all of these things that y all been saying all of these other Republican You know candidates have been for years like they love to use those terms threat to democracy you know fascist This was like the first time I heard that thrown around a lot but you never Governed with that type of sense of urgency and you never you know Tried to stop what was happening are potentially going to happen with with that type of urgency [00:36:05,813]: So you told us this Didn’t fight like it now He’s back in the White House and all of that talk went away You saw President Obama chummy chummy with him it you know the Jimmy Carter’s funeral You saw Joe Biden literally say welcome home To the White House [00:36:23,473]: Well I’m like well god damn who who welcomes Hitler and I’m putting Hitler in quotation marks Who welcomes Hitler home [00:36:28,893]: Yeah I mean so it’s just like why would you ever believe anything that you know [00:36:34,553]: They say in the future and what’s interesting is you’re making some really valid points A lot of people in America will agree with and yet the Democratic brand is toxic as fuck It’s disgusting and that’s why you know you asked me about Governor Josh Shapiro earlier Governor Josh Shapiro is great you know I think that He’d be a phenomenal candidate for 2028 if we have an actual free and fair election you know But the Democratic brand is so bad that it even makes the good candidates Suck and why is it bad [00:37:04,853]: Why why is it got as bad as it has because it loses Their losers they’ve lost like they lost and they like they didn’t just lose an election they lost the people they lost They lost broad swaths of their base you know whether it’s Latinos whether it’s you know black people like you know They lost a large part of their base even white women It’s just like yo they lost a large part of their base because nobody’s buying what it is that they’re selling And I think a number of one of the biggest reasons for that is simply because They don’t understand what’s going on with everyday working class people [00:37:43,313]: I think it’s a party that got really Bougie it got really elitist you know you had a lot of liberals who were making a lot of money especially You know a lot of a lot of liberals of color you know Sometimes when you’re in that when you’re on the hill you forget what’s going on in the hood You stay stuck in that that bubble of the hill and you and your people are talking and y all have a language and y all have a Understanding and y all might be making money But when the last time you wouldn’t talk to some folks in the hood to see was really really going on Even when Joe Biden makes that comment you know you don’t vote for me [00:38:17,773]: You ain’t black He got that from the black people [00:38:19,433]: He was around He didn’t make that up [00:38:22,033]: Like he’s not a freestyler like Come up with no bars like that on the top of his head like somebody he heard that said to him by I Guarantee you the black people who was around him and you know old grandpa Me if you don’t know the vote for me and Trump you ain’t black He thought he was cool when he said that because of the people that he was around at the time So it’s just like man You got to just plug in with you know people who are actually connected to what’s going on on the ground It’s a profound point because I remember when they started using the term Latin X and My mom’s Venezuelan [00:38:58,933]: I remember saying to my ma [00:39:00,353]: How does it feel like to be Latin X [00:39:02,513]: And she went get going your Latin X [00:39:04,673]: Let me get the fuck out [00:39:05,953]: Yeah basically what the hell is that an egg [00:39:07,953]: and it’s just If you they’d seen there were times where it seemed like they were doing it on purpose to alienate people You know the people aren’t worried about that no Latino in the history of the universe Has ever been worried apart from about for about the trans issue because they’ve got bigger things to worry about Man you know I ended up in a me and my co host DJ envy [00:39:34,673]: We ended up in a commercial For Donald Trump that they said was like the most impactful commercial of his campaign because I’m sitting at home Watching football and I see this commercial that says vice president Kamala Harris is for Transgender foot foot transgender inmates receiving surgeries and it was like this what your taxpayer dollars are going to I Remember perking up like what [00:40:03,873]: And I’m a supporter like not only do I support her I consider her a friend I’m like I Don’t want my taxpayer dollars going to that like that’s literally with my mind state I’m like what and you heard her say it and I’m sure it was you know taking out of context But she said it at you know whatever on the commercial and so I said it on the air the next day I was like yo did y all see that commercial that ran during the football game [00:40:23,873]: I was like I don’t know if it was the backdrop of football if that was on during a reality show or something I probably wouldn’t pay it in no attention But you know you watching football and you see Kamala has wants to use your taxpayer dollars for transgender you know inmate surgeries I Like no I didn’t so he he he used that in a campaign so to the point if They hadn’t been focusing on a minor issue Yeah Like that that commercial would have never been done and I would have never had been able to state that and here’s the thing [00:40:58,453]: I Believe in everybody’s right to exist Everybody transgenders [00:41:02,453]: I believe in your right to Exist right believe in your right to exist But if you really want to help those people and you know this isn’t a winning political strategy How about just get in the White House [00:41:16,243]: And help those people campaign on the big broad issues And then when you get in the White House then you help those you help you help those those issues Cuz there’s a small small small community you know it can’t help it can’t impact you You know when it comes to you know who votes for you in a real real real way That’s not a large number of voters [00:41:33,583]: So just get in the White House on the big issues and then help them on the side I don’t know why that’s a hard concept for them to understand I think it’s because it’s not that they don’t understand I think you hit the nail on the head when you said a lot of it is people who are very isolated in their world And this is the shit that they talk about [00:41:50,243]: Yeah because they social media and social media right [00:41:52,743]: But they don’t you know If you’re not concerned about your finances if you’re financially secure if you’re physically in a gated community whatever Then this is a kind of intellectual bullshit that you can spend your time on right [00:42:04,223]: And so a lot of it seemed to me at least from the outside like almost like what they call virtue signaling where you talk About it so that people think you’re a good person But actually what they’re doing in the process alienating most people I don’t care about it [00:42:16,743]: I remember when President Biden said The trans rights issue is the greatest civil rights issue of our generation What He Tweeted this he said it the trans rights issue is that I’m black y all ain’t figured us out yet You know what [00:42:39,643]: I mean [00:42:40,083]: How are we the greatest civil rights issue of a generation [00:42:43,463]: But it’s stuff like that that makes regular everyday working class people feel like they don’t even know what the hell is going on Once again I believe in everybody’s right to exist Yeah but you’ve got to be smart when it comes to politically put politics and just political strategy I remember the Latin next thing [00:42:58,523]: I remember seeing that and immediately hearing the backlash from Latinos so I’m like who came up with this who was in a room brainstorming this and was like Latinx I Still today don’t even know what that means [00:43:14,763]: I Don’t even know what I don’t I don’t even know what that was supposed to even represent But you know it kind of reminds me of like sometimes in In media you know I’ve been in rooms and especially in radio and you know you’ll have a consultant be like So what is a 23 year old [00:43:34,243]: white girl of a 23 year old black girl from You know Raleigh New Jersey [00:43:39,783]: What are they into [00:43:41,623]: And you look around the room and it’s me a black man and it’s my guy DJ envy who’s a 40 something year old black man and you know at the time you know my Other co host Anjali she’s a you know 40 something year old Asian and black woman I’m like well where’s the 23 [00:43:57,463]: Oh like go get a 23 year old black woman go get a bunch of 23 year old black women from Jersey and ask them What they’re into why are you asking us and I think that happens in a lot of rooms quite often people sit around and try to determine what they think certain groups are into and Nowadays when you can just pull out your phone and go on social media and ask chat GPT You’re getting a lot of this from online that that’s who you’re crowdsourcing and I don’t think Social media will ever be just going out and being in the streets [00:44:26,923]: All right then Well you said you know wise people learn from other people’s mistakes dumb people learn from their own Democrats at least learning from their own you’re well connected [00:44:34,723]: You talk to people [00:44:35,423]: No no Not in any way shape or form and it’s actually sad like right now You know some of my favorite voices that are actually in the Democratic Party who are actually elected officials of people like Jasmine Crockett You know people like AOC those are folks that The whole party should be listening to the the Chuck Schumer’s the Hakeem Jeffrey’s those guys who are in Democratic leadership [00:44:58,943]: They need to get all the way out the way They should actually resign and I think that any Democrat Who isn’t out there actually fighting on behalf of the people are actually trying to you know Resist what what is what is happening in the White House in a real way [00:45:15,583]: I think that you know those people should be primaried [00:45:18,503]: I really do because if not stop lying to us like when Chuck Schumer says things like oh that that that that uh The Donald Trump’s bill is the worst bill and it’s gonna hurt the American people and you know We’re not gonna you know we’re not gonna vote for this within a day later [00:45:38,683]: You’re like you’re gonna vote for it because you know it’s gonna It’s gonna protect America and you know America America you know would be way worse if we didn’t sign it and the government shut down it’s like Yo you can’t tell me something is so terrible but you’re willing to support it anyway [00:45:54,819]: At least try to negotiate [00:45:57,079]: I don’t think there’s no negotiation [00:45:58,579]: You just you know bent to what it is you know the Trump administration had in that And that is very confusing to me as an American citizen [00:46:08,679]: That is very confusing to me as a person who’s voted for the Democratic Party in every election since you know 2008 [00:46:15,799]: That is very confusing to me because what I really think is you like the bill Chuck Schumer you’re just scared to say it [00:46:21,999]: You’re just too much of a coward to say you know what I actually like this bill [00:46:26,119]: I’m going to support it [00:46:27,039]: That’s what I personally think [00:46:29,439]: I would respect that more than this bill is so terrible oh my God it’s going to hurt American people [00:46:34,739]: But you know what [00:46:35,919]: I got to sign it anyway because the alternative is worse [00:46:39,199]: Once again putting us in a situation where I got to figure out what is going to cause me the least harm [00:46:44,739]: Why is it always like that for people for Democrats [00:46:48,059]: Why is it Democrats their strategy is always whatever causes the least harm [00:46:52,879]: Why do we always constantly got to have that as the options [00:46:55,879]: It seems to me the problem with the Democrat Party Charlemagne is very much like the Labour Party in our country where you’ve got only regular people like yourselves whose interest is in making the lives of ordinary people better [00:47:09,579]: And then you’ve got this fringe element who you want to talk about transgender rabbits or whatever it is [00:47:17,599]: Rabbits who identify as bunnies [00:47:18,939]: Yeah rabbits who identify as bunnies and whether that is acceptable and then we need to have a debate about the language about how we address bunnies [00:47:26,039]: And you’re there going mate people can’t afford to pay the electricity bill what are we doing [00:47:30,319]: But they’re the ones in charge [00:47:32,019]: That’s right [00:47:32,499]: Listen man I’m a cheer dad [00:47:35,159]: So we go on these cheerleading competitions and we go to these different cities and it’s parents there with their kids and it’s always always diverse groups always [00:47:44,519]: Black people white people Asian people Indians Jewish people you know it’s a super diverse [00:47:49,599]: Spanish people Latinos [00:47:51,079]: And I remember one time we were sitting at dinner because you know the kids were having a team dinner team bonding dinner [00:47:57,439]: So they were over here and all the parents are at the dough table drinking our wine drinking our tequila having a conversation [00:48:03,759]: And I just remember the trans issue came up and it started with a conversation about furries [00:48:12,079]: And somebody was like what the f are furries [00:48:14,759]: Like oh furries are kids that identify as cats [00:48:18,059]: And it was like a split second pause and it was just like okay this s is going too far [00:48:23,639]: And then the women set it off like God damn it about time somebody said and then we had a whole conversation about how all of that stuff is just ridiculous to be having those type of conversations in our schools you know those type of conversations in politics [00:48:40,399]: Like we care about how we’re going to keep food on our table and roofs over our head [00:48:44,779]: Like what a luxury it is [00:48:46,559]: So why aren’t the Democrats like they listen to people why aren’t they hearing that message [00:48:51,839]: Why aren’t they making the adjustment [00:48:53,939]: You know what’s so funny [00:48:55,139]: Okay [00:48:57,019]: Last year and this is why I look at all of them right now I’m like y all are so full of s [00:49:01,099]: Last year I’m public enemy number one amongst liberals right [00:49:04,299]: I’m the black person on a platform that people always said was super left leaning when really I’m just a curious person [00:49:12,879]: I’m willing to talk to both sides [00:49:14,659]: I’m willing to hear good ideas from anybody as long as it’s a good idea [00:49:18,199]: So I guess they felt like yo this is that’s that’s that’s ours in a way you know which we are [00:49:24,959]: I always say where do people show [00:49:26,879]: But when you just start being objective and calling things you know for the bullshit that it is the way I feel like I’ve I’ve always done now all of a sudden since I’m not using your talking points and all of a sudden now that I’m not you know speaking the language that you want me to speak now all of a sudden I’m I’m MAGA but man now that the election’s over I hear a lot of talking points that I’ve been saying myself for the last two or three years [00:49:56,159]: Like I’ve been I’m like damn I’ve been said that all day [00:49:58,879]: I’ve been with saying that about Democrats like y all oh y all just realizing Democrats messaging sucks [00:50:03,239]: Oh y all y all just realizing that the language of politics is dead [00:50:06,839]: Like really [00:50:07,539]: Oh oh oh now y all want to have conversations about how president Biden should have stepped down [00:50:12,339]: I remember when I said that on the daily show December of 2023 it was like off with his head [00:50:18,899]: Like I remember there was a young lady uh she was on um uh MSNBC with my with my homie Stephanie rule [00:50:25,339]: I can’t remember [00:50:25,799]: I can’t remember the young lady’s name [00:50:26,899]: She’s a professor uh somewhere and Stephanie rule just literally just bought me and killer Mike up [00:50:33,179]: Like she was they were talking about Trump’s shoe Trump’s sneaker and Steph goes so why don’t guys like Charlamagne and killer Mike before she could finish her sentence [00:50:44,159]: The woman was like cause they need to read a book [00:50:47,299]: Both of them are Russian agents so they’re Russian [00:50:49,399]: They’re spreading Russian propaganda [00:50:51,199]: I’m like huh [00:50:52,939]: Like I’m literally watching why can I watch all of these shows I’m watching [00:50:55,919]: They’re like why the fuck what is she talking about [00:50:58,819]: But that is how they were doing us back then [00:51:02,379]: We were just ahead of the curve [00:51:04,759]: Like I you know I’m hearing people say things now like you know we got to hold Democrats feet to the fire and you know they can’t just take us for granted anymore and you know they they they got to know that they you know our votes matter and they they we’re just not going to be beholden to them for no reason [00:51:21,339]: You know people have been saying that for the last 10 years like Candace Owens had the whole Blexit movement [00:51:25,739]: That’s what that was about [00:51:26,659]: Like you know what I’m saying [00:51:28,099]: Like and not just Candace there was people on the left that were saying that over the last decade [00:51:32,879]: Why are y all just coming to that conclusion now way after the fact if y all would have had this honest conversation two years ago three years ago four years ago we might have put the party in a better place [00:51:45,419]: Shahnameh let’s cut to the quick here [00:51:47,659]: That seems to me a pretty racist attitude by the Dems [00:51:51,339]: To look at somebody through the color of their skin and go you’re going to vote this way [00:51:55,379]: You’re going to think this way [00:51:56,659]: And if you don’t I’m probably going to hurl racial epithets at you [00:52:01,219]: Isn’t that just racism [00:52:02,219]: Can we just call it what it is [00:52:04,239]: The 46th president of the United States of America told me that if I don’t vote for him I’m Donald Trump then I ain’t black [00:52:11,639]: I don’t know if you would call it racist but it’s definitely something it’s racial [00:52:17,279]: It’s definitely a entitlement [00:52:20,119]: Black people are supposed to support us [00:52:21,999]: We’re the party that you know gave them civil rights in the 60s [00:52:25,779]: You know we’re the party that granted them the right to vote [00:52:28,539]: Like they’re supposed to support us [00:52:31,379]: And it’s like they can’t understand that this is a very what have you done for me lately [00:52:37,099]: You know [00:52:37,399]: Yeah [00:52:37,579]: Okay [00:52:38,299]: By the way you didn’t give us the first black president [00:52:41,219]: America went out there and voted for the first black president [00:52:44,379]: I hate when they use that [00:52:45,379]: Like hey we gave y all the first black president and the first black woman on the Supreme Court and the first black woman vice president [00:52:52,499]: It’s like no people went out there and voted for you know President Obama [00:52:58,019]: And you know I voted for President Biden because of who he had as his second in command Vice President Kamala Harris and that administration you know put in Ketanji Brown Jackson [00:53:08,799]: So it still all boils down to the voters [00:53:10,719]: You didn’t give us anything [00:53:13,239]: So you know I don’t know if racist is the word I would use but it definitely is [00:53:17,939]: They feel entitled to our votes because we are black [00:53:22,159]: And it just seems you wouldn’t do that with any other group even Latinos [00:53:26,619]: You wouldn’t really do it with Latinos and just go oh hey Pablo come over here mate vote for us [00:53:32,859]: Not only wouldn’t they do it they didn’t do it [00:53:35,639]: You know you hear plenty of stories about you know when the vice president you know became the candidate there was people in her team that felt like they had the black vote all sewn up [00:53:47,599]: So they wanted to go focus on other communities [00:53:50,279]: Oh my God what another political miscalculation [00:53:52,359]: You really ain’t talking to nobody [00:53:53,679]: You really ain’t talking to nobody outside of the Hill if you thought that because black people have been the loudest about you know how they feel about the Democratic Party [00:54:03,399]: They’re disgusted with the Democratic Party what the Democratic Party has been doing [00:54:06,379]: You just haven’t been paying attention [00:54:07,759]: You just dismissed those black people [00:54:09,799]: You want to label those black people MAGA [00:54:11,399]: You want to tell those black people oh you’re just going to try to help Trump win [00:54:13,919]: No I am your consumer [00:54:16,279]: I am your voter base [00:54:17,819]: I’m telling you what’s the problem and you’re just dismissing me [00:54:20,379]: So you want to go run around with Liz Cheney and try to get those Republicans who don’t give a damn about you and aren’t going to vote for you anyway [00:54:26,479]: You spent a lot of money in the Latino community warring those voters and they gave you their ass to kiss too [00:54:32,919]: And more than 50 percent of them went to go vote for Donald Trump [00:54:35,599]: So guess what you should have been doing [00:54:37,679]: Focusing on your base [00:54:38,399]: But you know why you’re afraid to focus on your base [00:54:41,239]: Because your base is black [00:54:43,179]: The majority of your base is black women [00:54:45,559]: The majority of your base is black men [00:54:47,599]: But you feel like if you focus on your base that is a political death sentence to the rest of the country to these hypothetical you know white swing voters in the Midwest who are like oh they’re too focused on race [00:55:00,079]: No [00:55:00,619]: How about just when you’re in the White House and when you’re in these positions of power focus on actually doing things for your base [00:55:07,579]: Your base will always be there for you [00:55:09,239]: And then you can go out there and try to woo others [00:55:11,399]: But you got to take care of home first [00:55:13,279]: Why do you think why do you think Make America Great Again messaging works [00:55:18,299]: Why do you think America First messaging works [00:55:21,099]: Because regardless of what color you are in America if you see this country giving hundreds of millions of dollars to other countries you know for war or whatever it is and you’re starving here in America you like well God damn what about us [00:55:37,979]: Take care of us [00:55:39,079]: If you don’t take care of those people at home you’re probably going to have some civil unrest [00:55:44,759]: But if you were taking care of those people at home nobody would nobody would complain about whatever y all do in these other countries [00:55:51,519]: Nobody would complain about the money y all gave to other countries if you took care of home first [00:55:55,539]: It’s the same thing with the Democratic Party [00:55:57,319]: If you actually took care of your base then your base wouldn’t complain about what y all are doing for other people [00:56:02,479]: And it also shows an ignorance because they go Latino voters [00:56:05,599]: And I’m like who are you talking about [00:56:07,019]: You’re talking about Mexicans [00:56:08,079]: You’re talking about Peruvians Argentines because I’m going to tell you someone someone who’s half Venezuelan you are going to find it very difficult to get a Venezuelan who’s rightly or wrongly whatever you may think experienced communism or a Cuban to vote for the left [00:56:23,299]: That is a fact [00:56:23,879]: You’re just saying it ain’t going to happen [00:56:25,659]: Latinos aren’t monolithic just like black people aren’t monolithic [00:56:27,999]: White Americans aren’t monolithic [00:56:29,659]: Like nobody’s monolithic [00:56:30,999]: So you have to you know pick and choose who you want to talk to [00:56:35,659]: And I think that we I think you know Democrats do themselves a disservice by having a big tent party mentality because when you have a big tent party mentality and you have all of these different groups under this tent you try to be all things to all people [00:56:55,199]: So you go around Latinos and you singing dumb shit you know what I’m saying [00:57:00,279]: You go around black people [00:57:01,679]: They not like us [00:57:02,319]: They not like us [00:57:03,099]: You know you go around white people [00:57:04,159]: You know what I’m saying [00:57:04,459]: You’re singing Taylor Swift [00:57:05,119]: It’s like yo how about this [00:57:08,339]: How about just talk to all of these people like they’re people [00:57:11,779]: You know what all of these people want because as I said earlier human beings just want some money in their pocket and they just want to feel safe [00:57:18,519]: How about create a broad message that every single American can understand and relate to [00:57:25,199]: And that message is oh you’re going to make me get some more money in my pocket [00:57:28,939]: Cool [00:57:29,319]: Oh you’re going to keep us safe [00:57:31,059]: Cool [00:57:31,839]: Everybody can relate to that [00:57:33,199]: All of that other gimmicky you know dumb shit nah [00:57:38,039]: They was wearing kente cloths and taking knees on Capitol Hill [00:57:44,779]: Like what are we doing [00:57:46,039]: Like come on man [00:57:46,979]: Like come on [00:57:47,679]: Stop [00:57:47,959]: Well that’s right [00:57:48,539]: I think it’s true in our country as well [00:57:50,539]: People try to divide everyone along racial lines and talk to this group in this way [00:57:54,619]: And actually I think your point is exactly right which is if you talk to people about their concerns you actually find out the differences between black white Latino et cetera are much smaller than people like to pretend when it comes to those core issues [00:58:06,259]: That’s right [00:58:06,659]: And you know uniting people around that is going to be the winning strategy [00:58:10,039]: Before Charlemagne answers the final question at the end of the interview make sure to head over to our sub stack [00:58:15,759]: The link is in the description where you’ll be able to see this [00:58:19,639]: Have you always envisioned yourself with the amount of fame that you have [00:58:23,079]: You speak a lot about mental health and anxiety but the profession you’ve chosen seem like they make that a lot harder [00:58:28,839]: Who do you see is the best most important public figures right now who are having the most positive impact for black Americans today [00:58:35,659]: You’ve spoken a lot about wanting politicians who will help advance the black community [00:58:39,519]: What two to three things do you feel can be done to help the black community [00:58:43,439]: Anyway man it’s been great having you on [00:58:45,139]: Before we go to our supporters and they ask you their questions the last question we always ask is what’s the one thing we’re not talking about as a society that you think we should be [00:58:54,739]: Oh um the mental the mental the mental health issues that this current moment in politics is causing and not even just this current moment from from 2016 to now like I don’t even think that uh I don’t even think people are capable of having good faith conversations anymore because people have chosen sides and we’re we’re we’re listening with the intent to reply and not with the intent to understand [00:59:34,399]: And that’s where the yelling comes in [00:59:37,239]: That’s where the screaming comes in [00:59:38,619]: The over talking comes in the you’re right you know um you’re wrong thing comes in and that’s just all driving us mad [00:59:46,159]: I use that because I’m talking to the UK people it’s driving us mad you know what I mean [00:59:49,679]: It’s literally just making everybody batshit crazy and we don’t necessarily realize it [00:59:56,439]: We don’t realize how much you know anxiety and bouts of depression you know and PTSD you know have have probably shot up since 2016 just because of this political moment that we’re in [01:00:12,919]: And you know I don’t think this country has stopped to take a collective breath [01:00:16,819]: You know I don’t think the world has stopped to take a collective breath [01:00:21,179]: And now that you know Trump is back in there everybody’s definitely not taking enough collective breaths at all because every day it’s something [01:00:30,679]: What Steve Bannon say [01:00:31,619]: Flood the zone [01:00:32,399]: Every single day it’s something that’s making you like what [01:00:34,679]: He said what [01:00:35,219]: He did this [01:00:35,799]: They doing what [01:00:36,279]: They go what [01:00:36,699]: Who lost their job [01:00:37,519]: Like it’s just so much going on you know at one time and I don’t think people are thinking about the mental the toll it’s taking on people’s mental mental health in this world [01:00:48,939]: All right man [01:00:49,379]: Thanks for coming on [01:00:50,439]: Head on over to Substack where we ask Charlamagne your questions [01:00:54,619]: When do you think the Democrats will have a presidential candidate that is humble about the earning the vote of minority groups
